The World Changes for Apple
Not too many companies can make that claim. When the iPad was first announced many people couldn’t control their girlish schoolboy laughter at the name they decided to go with. What place does technology have with femine hygiene? But as time has passed and the jokes have had time to stop being funny, the iPad remains, and the word creates a different image in our heads. It now reminds us of that kick ass toy that we really hoped would be under the tree on Christmas morning. The recent episode of Modern Family captured this type of enthusiasm for the iPad perfectly. I am pretty sure we can all agree that it doesn’t matter what Apple names something as long as it start with “i” and has one syllable after it, it will sell.
Sure there are going to be limitations up front until the rest of the world catches up. Fore example the iPad doesn’t support Flash. Now you will have to get used to seeing the blue lego brick where a Flash segment of a webpage used to be. But how long do you think it will be before these sights either release a version for the iPad, or remove their Flash and go with the HTML5 standards? It seems like most major sites are going to be heading in that direction as they certainly do not want to remove themselves from the iPad market. Especially newspaper and other media websites which really make sense to be experienced on an iPad.
I wish Apple would just buy Adobe and put all this Flash nonsense to rest. I have no idea if that is ever possible but that is why I use the term ‘wish’. A world where Flash and Apple play nice would be a better place. And from what I have read, Flash isquite an advanced tool, it just doesn’t get used properly or to its full potential. Too bad.
Apple has done an extraordinary job of branding and that is largely why we no longer think the term iPad is uncomfortable. Major websites are changing the way they deliver content to be compliant with the iPad because it is essentially a giant iPhone and that market will continuously grow. Apple has a made a strong product that will be more enjoyable and efficient than a laptop for certain tasks. Namely consuming media, and many of us do this enough to want (really really want) a device that is designed specifically for this.
