A Mac Mini should be able to meet most of your everyday computing needs unless your are more of a power user and need the extra balls to do graphics and video editing. Newer Mac Minis should be able to even do those tasks more than adequately for your purposes.
The Mac Mini sits nicely anywhere as it does not take up much room.
